How StepUp Works in the Classroom

StepUp fits into the school day in 20 minutes or less. The teacher displays StepUp on their Smart Board or a large screen, and students watch and do the program: moving, talking and counting along as the activities require.

What students do

Each lesson combines rhythmic movement patterns with reading, writing and math skills. Students practice whole body coordination, visual, and auditory processing as they go. Repetition builds fluency, so the basics become automatic.

What the classroom needs

  • A large screen with a stable internet connection: smart board, Apple TV, iPad, Chromebook or laptop. Google Chrome works best.
  • PreK: a step stool and towel for each student.
  • Kindergarten through Grade 2: a step stool for each student. Listen, Talk, and Write worksheets are included as printable PDFs you download from StepUp; printed workbooks are available at an additional cost.

What teachers do

The teacher's role is provide encouragement, support, and feedback to students as they complete the program exercises. Teachers log in to StepUp and the program picks up where the class left off the day before. Students don't need accounts or devices of their own. Every school gets teacher training before starting.
